I'm currently working as a Head of Systems and Data, with a view to taking on a CTO role in the future.

I've had a fairly non-standard IT career, in that I didn't follow the "standard" path. I didn't go to uni, I didn't get my first IT job until my mid-20s, I've followed a typically non-corporate path, I spent just shy of a decade in finance system consulting before swapping out to end client where I've been for almost another decade. Because I'm old you see!

This path has benefited me tremendously. Rather than just getting stuck on a support desk or being a background code monkey, I've been able to really get to understand how businesses work and how tech can help them work better. Generally speaking I can turn my hand to anything, and quickly too.

This little space on Medium is somewhere I wanted to drop some of my thoughts, approaches, practices. Everything in tech is opinionated, so I guess these are mine.
